DevOps Excellence Awards 2017: Finalists announced

British Gas, HMRC, Thomas Cook and BMJ all make the cut for DevOps projects that stand out from the crowd

The finalists in the DevOps Excellence Awards 2017 have been announced, with organisations as diverse as Centrica, HMRC, British Gas, Scania, Financial Times and Thomas Cook all represented on the end-user side, while Chef, Puppet, Atlassian, New Relic, Red Hat and CA Technologies have all made the grade among the vendor-focused DevOps awards.

The Awards will be the first time that excellence in DevOps has been celebrated in the UK, with the DevOps Awards not just recognising the tools and services that have done most to help organisations adopt DevOps, but also the projects and people who have excelled too.

Computing Special Projects Editor Peter Gothard chaired the expert panel of judges.

"We're really excited to be launching these new awards for 2017, which feel a fantastic way to recognise an aspect of the IT industry which is in such huge growth, and producing downright revolutionary effects. Congratulations to all finalists, and I can't wait to see you all on the night," said Gothard.

Award categories include "Best DevOps Transformation", which British Gas, Trainline and Financial Times will battle over with five other entrants; "Best Use of Agile", which pit Centrica, Datadog, HMRC and British Gas against each other, and "DevOps Project of the Year".

Puppet, Chef, Red Hat, Atlassian, CA Technologies and QA Consulting will also fight it out in a number of software and services oriented awards.

Craig Richardson of Arcus Global, Sanna Khan of Centrica, Maryna Veremenko of Thomas Cook, Aaron Gibbon of BJSS and Edward Williams of QA Consulting will all compete for the title of "Young DevOps Engineer of the Year".

And the "Best DevOps Team" Award will go to either Automation Logic, BMJ, British Gas, Sigma Software, or Travis Perkins.

The DevOps Excellence Awards 2017 will be the highlight of Computing's DevOps Summit 2017 on Wednesday 22 March 2017. Attendance at the DevOps Summit is free to qualifying IT leaders and senior IT pros, while tables for the DevOps Awards can be booked here.
