AWS Marketplace updated to support cloud software vendors based in Europe

AWS updates online marketplace Ts and Cs to support EU vendors without a US presence

The AWS Marketplace, which enables Amazon's cloud customers to find and buy third-party applications and services to run on AWS, has updated its online marketplace so that organisations based in Europe can now register.

The move enables companies such as analytic database company Exasol to offer products from AWS for the first time.

However, it appears that until now independent software vendors (ISVs) wishing to offer wares via AWS have had to be based in the US or had to create a US-based legal entity in order to register for acceptance into the AWS Marketplace.

The company has now rectified the situation with an update to the platform that enables ISVs based in the European Union to directly register products in the AWS Marketplace, and 14 European vendors have now added to the more than 2,700 software listings already available, according to Amazon.

"ISVs based in the EU can now register their products in AWS Marketplace without having to create a US-based entity," said AWS chief evangelist Jeff Barr, announcing the expanded support on the AWS blog.

A list of EU-based vendors and their respective products that were available at the time of writing is also detailed in the blog.

One of the vendors is Germany-based Exasol, developer of an in-memory column-oriented analytic database designed to speed up workloads such as business intelligence and reporting projects.

"Companies of all sizes can now take advantage of Exasol's performance-beating in-memory analytic database on the world's most significant cloud platform," said Exasol's vice president for product management, Jens Graupmann.

"This is of great benefit to organisations that want to get started with data analytics fast but cannot invest upfront in analytic infrastructures, and it will be interesting to see what new data-driven businesses are created as a result."

Exasol has offered its platform on Microsoft's Azure cloud since last year, and on Bigstep's bare metal cloud service.
