Wileyfox announces Spark, Spark + and Spark X Cyanogen handsets

Three new smartphones launched today by UK smartphone maker Wileyfox

British mobile startup Wileyfox has followed up last year's debut Swift and Storm Cyanogen-based smartphones - competent, if unremarkable devices - with the release of three new smartphones today.

The Spark handset has a quad-core Mediatek MT6735 1.3GHz chipset, with storage beginning at 8GB, rising to a slightly more generous 16GB on the Swift + and X models. The vanilla Swift offers just 1GB RAM, but the Swift + and X double this to an adequate 2GB.

There's an eight megapixel camera on both front and rear and, to differentiate further, a 13 megapixel camera on the rear of the Swift + and above, while the 8MP sensor remains on the front.

Indeed, on the front there's a five-inch IPS display with HD resolution (which has been enforced using Dragontrail glass). The Swift X stretches the screen size to 5.5 inches.

There's a reasonable 2,200mAh capacity battery in the standard and Swift + models, which is a little on the small side but is removable. The Swift X stretches the capacity to a more capacious 3,000mAh.

The entry-level Spark is offered in two colours, Sandstone Black and White. Premium colour accents will be an option with the + and X models.

All run the Google-free, Cyanogen fork of the Android operating system.

On the pricing front, though, the range looks quite alluring. The Spark will be priced at £89.99, while the Spark + and Spark X will be £114.99 and £129.99 respectively. Pre-orders are already live on the Wileyfox.com website and, not surprisingly, through Amazon, with shipping expected to begin on 12 July.

The devices will be thoroughly reviewed on Computing's sister website, www.theinquirer.net.
