The Foreign and Commonwealth Office to appoint a head of IT delivery

Head of IT delivery will earn £100,000 a year and report directly to the CIO

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is looking to appoint a head of IT delivery who will report directly to the CIO.

The head of IT delivery will earn £100,000 a year, and be required to build influential relationships at a senior level with suppliers and key stakeholders. The post-holder will be responsible for understanding user requirements and concerns and ensuring these are taken into consideration in the planning of changes to technology, service levels and applications.

The FCO has outsourced most of its IT to a number of suppliers, including network services, desktop and infrastructure services, application services and overseas support.

The organisation describes the position as "a great opportunity to lead a team charged with delivering a step change in [its] knowledge and technology capability".

"A high profile and key position within the directorate's senior leadership team, you will work closely with the CIO and with fellow knowledge and technology directorate department heads, overseeing the FCO's live service, the FCO's relationship with the service management integrator and other IT suppliers, IT security, financial control and contractual management," it said.

The prime responsibility of the head of IT delivery's department will be to ensure that a successful and mutually productive relationship is maintained with the service management integrator and other third party suppliers, it added.

The closing date for applications is 4 July.

Last week, GDS posted a job ad for a digital marketplace programme director who would also lead the G-Cloud initiative, while the Mayor of London is thought to be close to appointing a chief digital officer. Meanwhile, NHS England is on the hunt for a director of digital experience.
