HP Inc claims 13-hour battery life for new EliteBook 1030

Same price as a MacBook or Microsoft Surface, but longer battery life, claims HP Inc

HP Inc (HP) has unveiled a new high-end laptop that, it claims, can offer a 13-hour battery life from its Intel Core M processor.

The HP EliteBook 1030 comes with a 13.3in screen - bigger than its EliteBook 1020 predecessor - with full-HD and no touchscreen support, or a 3200x1800 QHD+ resolution screen with touch capabilities, but which also adds weight.

The display is strengthened with Gorilla Glass 3, and the laptop has an equally tough MIL-STD tested diamond-cut all-metal design and a spill-resistant backlit keyboard.

Despite its rugged design, the HP EliteBook 1030 weighs just 1.16 kilos and measures 15.7mm at its thickest point.

The new device uses the latest fanless Intel Core M processor, which HP claims is around 20 per cent faster than the previous-generation Core M. The laptop comes with up to a 512GB SSD and up to 16GB of memory. HP claims that its 13 hours of battery life represents a 40 per cent improvement on the previous model.

In terms of ports and connectivity, the EliteBook 1030 has 1 x USB Type-C port, 2 x Micro-USB 3.0, Wi-Di, Miracast, WLAN 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2.

The laptop, which runs Windows 10, features Bang & Olufsen audio, HP's noise cancelling software, Skype for Business certification and HP's biz-focused features, including HP Sure Start with Dynamic Protection and HP Touchpoint Manager, as well as HP Client Security.

The laptop comes with an on-sensor fingerprint reader along with IT requirements for managing devices with optional Intel vPro 4 and LANDesk features.

The HP EliteBook 1030 will be available in the UK from 1 June starting at £1,000.

The launch comes after HP unveiled the first production ready 3D printing systems, which it claims are cheaper and 10 times faster than current commercial offerings.
