Motorola unveils Moto G4 and G4 Plus smartphones and first Lenovo handset for UK

Handsets to cost £169 and £199 respectively

Motorola has unveiled two new Moto handsets, the Moto G4 (above left) and G4 Plus (above right), as well as its first Lenovo-branded handset, the K5.

Despite the names suggesting otherwise, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus both have 5.5in 1920x1080 full HD displays, but there are some differences in the specs, hence the different names.

The G4 comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera, while the G4 Plus has a 16MP camera, and the G4 Plus has a TurboPower charger that Motorola claims equips the smartphone with six hours of life in just 15 minutes.

The G4 can use the TurboPower charger, but this will have to be bought separately.

There is a rear-facing fingerprint sensor on the Moto G Plus, which will be made available with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage options.

Both Motorola devices are powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow software and 5MP front-facing cameras.

The new Moto G (2016) will be available in the UK from early June at the SIM-free price of £169, while the Moto G Plus will launch exclusively at Amazon later in the same month for £199.

Motorola also announced that the Lenovo K5 smartphone (pictured above) is coming to the UK, and will be available from Amazon and Tesco next month from £129 SIM-free.

The budget handset has a 5in HD screen, an octa-core processor, 13MP and 5MP cameras, and up to 48GB of additional storage via microSD cards.

A spokesperson for the firm told V3 that the move to bring a Lenovo-branded handset to the market is an attempt to introduce the brand to the smartphone market in the UK, and cover the entry level space.
