Scottish government on the hunt for senior digital talent including a CDO

New roles will 'have a direct influence on new powers introduced under the Scotland Act 2016'

The Scottish government is inviting applications for three new senior digital roles, including a chief digital officer (CDO) for social services.

The government said that the new roles will provide a "unique opportunity to have a direct influence on the new powers introduced under the Scotland Act 2016".

It added that this "was set to be a high-profile and exciting time for digital alignment and delivery support to a range of programmes, with continuing political, public and media interest".

According to the job advert for a CDO, the postholder will be "the technology leader and digital champion for security services in Scotland". They will be responsible for developing the strategic approach to digital services and IT for the country's new social security powers.

He or she will have or develop an understanding of the current and future landscape for digital public services in Scotland, and provide strong leadership and senior-level advocacy for the development of technology solutions that support immediate and future business needs. The CDO will be based in Edinburgh on a permanent contract with a salary of £80,000 a year.

The second role is for a Programme Director for Scotland Act ICT Delivery & Transformation.

The Scottish government said that the successful candidate "will be the senior technology leader and digital evangelist for the implementation of the powers in the Scotland Act".

"As such, you will be responsible for engaging with the various policy domains, ensuring service continuity in the transition, and supporting digitally enabled service transformation".

The director will earn £80,000 a year on a permanent contract.

Finally, the Head of Information Technology Services for CAP Support "will be the technology leader and IT services champion for CAP payments in Scotland, operating and maintaining the new IT and digital services to over 20,000 rural customers".

The post-holder will be responsible for developing the strategic approach to IT services for the support of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and 'business-as-usual' services.

The successful candidate will also earn £80,000 and be based in Edinburgh.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 20 May 2016.
