Robert Gordon University searching for a new CIO

Incoming director of IT will have to plan, develop and implement a brand new IT strategy

Aberdeen's Robert Gordon University (RGU) is looking to appoint a new director of IT to lead the implementation of a new IT strategy.

The successful candidate will be tasked with planning and implementing this new IT strategy, providing "thought, strategic and operational leadership and management to the IT function".

In the job ad, posted on The Sunday Times, the university states that its key priorities in the next two to three years include enhancing teaching, learning and assessment with the help of technology. In addition, it is aiming to deliver the university's research strategy and funding, which will include technology solutions to support open access, research contract management and research data management.

RGU said that the new director of IT will also be responsible for the transformation of the use of web and social media environments to support recruitment and marketing across all the university's activities.

The university also wants to implement a new core student records solution in a bid to streamline internal processes and get better access to data. Lastly, it wants to implement an institutional-wide business intelligence project, which will be led by the IT director.

RGU said that the successful candidate will be a seasoned IT/change management professional with a proven track record of continuing professional development and proven experience of leading a professional team and implementing IT change systems. RGU ideally wants a candidate from higher education or people-focused industries.

He or she will, of course, have the ability to lead an IT function and communicate effectively across the university at all levels.

Applications close on 18 April 2016.
