Twitter suffers global outage across all platforms

Service up and down since early this morning in the UK

Twitter is suffering a global outage across web and mobile, with the social media site's web presence replaced with a simple message reading, "Something is technically wrong".

The fault does not seem to be affecting all users at all times, but the service has been experiencing considerable access problems for several hours.

After the above message, visitors to Twitter.com are greeted with the line, "Thanks for noticing - we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon".

Faults reportedly began around 8.20am UK time today, with early error messages warning of an "internal error" and the Twitter network being "over capacity".

Twitter's status page posted a "Service Issue" notice around 10am, saying:

"Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution."

While parts of Twitter are currently up and down, the service's @Support account is currently inactive and displaying no tweets. However, at one point the account tweeted a message which read:

""Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution."

Twitter's developer API status page also cited "service disruption" this morning.

Down Detector shows Twitter outage peaking at around 2,469 reports earlier today, with the figure resting now at around 600 reports. Outage split seems to be mostly focused on the web version, which accounts for 51 per cent of reports, with the iPad app accounting for 28 per cent and Android 19 per cent.
