Acer shows off latest Aspire Switch laptop/tablet hybrids ready for Windows 10

PC maker unveils new 2-in-1 devices designed for Windows 10

NEW YORK: Acer has unveiled updated versions of its Aspire Switch 10 and Aspire Switch 11 laptop/tablet hybrid systems as part of a portfolio of new systems ready for the release of Windows 10.

Coming later this year, the systems include a refreshed version of the Aspire Switch 10, an Intel Core M-powered Switch 11 upgrade, a MacBook rival in the shape of the Aspire Switch 12, and the M220 smartphone that will run the mobile version of Windows 10.

Acer claimed the Acer Aspire Switch 10 E has an improved hinge compared with its predecessor, making the display easier to remove and re-attach to the keyboard.

Acer was also keen to talk up the 2-in-1 device's 12-hour battery life, and that it will be made available in a choice of 10 colours. The Acer Aspire Switch 10 E will be available later this year priced at £279.99.

Meanwhile, a refreshed version of the Acer Aspire Switch 11 also comes with Acer's upgraded Snap Hinge 2 technology. It features an Intel Core M processor, an 11.6in Full HD display and a premium aluminium finish.

The Switch 11 V, like its predecessor, can be used as a tablet or full laptop, and comes with Microsoft's Window 8.1 and the promise of an upgrade to Windows 10 when it arrives.

Acer claimed that the Switch 11 V is suitable for professionals, saying that the firm is keen to take aim at the business PC market after seeing 80 percent growth in its commercial business last year. The Acer Aspire Switch 11 V is expected to go on sale for £499.

Acer also gave attendees at its New York event a glimpse of the Apple MacBook rival Aspire Switch 12, which was first shown off during Intel's IDF conference last year.

In a bid to take on Lenovo as well as Apple, Acer unveiled the Aspire R11, a convertible with a 360-degree rotating display and dual-torque hinge for a "wobble-free" touch experience. The Acer Aspire R11 is expected to cost £299.

The firm also showed off a version of the Acer M220 smartphone, which was demonstrated at Mobile World Congress running Windows 10. Acer said that all owners of the smartphone will receive an update when Windows 10 is released later this year.
