Standard Chartered CIO retiring as firm announces wave of job cuts
Jan Verplancke is retiring after a decade at the firm, with a successor yet to be announced
Standard Chartered CIO Jan Verplancke is stepping down from the bank following a decade at the company.
Verplancke, 51, who also had the title group head of technology and operations, joined Standard Chartered in 2004 and is based in Singapore. He was previously CIO of EMEA for hardware firm Dell.
During his time at Standard Chartered, he also held non-executive director roles at Cambridge Solutions (now Xchanging Solutions) from September 2006 to April 2009, and Monitise between July 2008 and August 2011. According to his LinkedIn profile, he spent more than a decade at Levi Strauss, and left the firm as vice president of architecture.
In his current role, he is responsible for all systems development, technology support and banking operations. According to BusinessWeek, he has been "instrumental in driving productivity gain and innovations".
His retirement comes as the bank announced that it was cutting 4,000 jobs in a significant restructuring of the business.
The firm is to make an announcement on his successor shortly.
Verplancke will stay on until his successor has been appointed and will leave after completing a hand-over period. Like Verplancke, his successor will report to group chief executive Peter Sands.
Richard Goulding, who is chief risk officer at the firm, is also retiring from the group after an eight-year stint. Goulding will also stay on until his successor has been appointed.
Sands thanked both Verplancke and Goulding for their "leadership and contribution to the group".
"I have worked very closely with Richard and Jan for many years and I wish them both well on their retirements," he said.
