CES 2015: Dell reveals XPS 13 running Intel's 5th gen Broadwell Core processor

Fits a 13.3in screen into the size of a typical 11in notebook

LAS VEGAS: Dell has unveiled the XPS 13 at CES, a laptop which boasts a 13.3in screen crammed into an 11in-sized chassis.

Showing off the laptop for the first time in a low key press briefing on Tuesday, Dell claimed the XPS 13 is the "smallest 13in notebook in the world, fitting a 13.3in screen into the size of a typical 11in notebook".

Dell proved this claim by holding up the laptop up against a 13in Macbook Air to show how much smaller the XPS 13's chassis was in comparison, despite having the same size screen as Apple's offering.

Running Windows 8.1, the XPS 13 features a massive 15 hours projected battery life on a single charge and features an UltraSharp Quad HD+ infinity display with 5.7million pixels in a 5.2mm bezel.

The XPS 13 is powered by Intel's 5th-generation Broadwell Core processors and takes advantage of solid state drives for storage. Dell says that it weighs just 1.18kgs.

The XPS 13 will be available from 20 January starting at £1,099 in the UK. The Developer Edition will be available from late January starting at £1,199, so it definitely doesn't come cheap.

Alongside the XPS 13, Dell also announced an updated version of its larger sibling, the XPS 15, which is now available with a 4K UHD display making it "the highest resolution panel available on a 15-inch laptop". The XPS 15 with the 4K Ultra HD display will be "coming soon" to the UK and will start at £1,449.
