More than 60 per cent of UK firms have deployed Internet of Things solutions

UK leads Germany and France with adoption of Internet of Things solutions

The UK is leading the way in the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, with more than 60 per cent of UK firms surveyed having deployed tools, according to a study conducted by analyst Forrester and commissioned by barcode printing and RFID technology provider Zebra Technologies.

Forrester conducted an online survey of 593 organisations in 16 countries to evaluate how each country's businesses are adopting IoT solutions.

The UK had far more uptake of IoT solutions than France (42 per cent) and Germany (44 per cent), and according to the survey a further 30 per cent of UK firms are to deploy IoT solutions in the coming year.

Globally, the number of businesses that have IoT solutions in place has increased from 15 per cent to 25 per cent in the past two years, the survey found, and more than 80 per cent of surveyed firms worldwide believe that IoT solutions will be the most strategic initiative for their organisation in a decade.

Of the types of solutions that firms were most interested in, 83 per cent identified Wi-Fi infrastructure and real-time location-tracking technologies as key for the enterprise.

Respondents in the UK considered IT governance issues as the main barrier to IoT adoption.

Computing Research found that UK firms are indeed placing importance on IoT, rather than dismissing it as another buzz-phrase.

A quarter of the 130 senior IT decision makers surveyed said that gathering and analysing data from IoT will be "extremely important", while 32 per cent said it will be "somewhat important".
