With so many top-tier smartphones on the market it can be hard to know which truly justifies the usually hefty price tag.

So it wasn't a big surprise when our three-way contest to see whether the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8 offered the best value for money proved popular with readers.

Microsoft also had a busy week, as it unveiled its first ever wearable product, the Band, aimed at fitness fans, while it also showed off new Windows 10 capabilities and updates for Azure to tackle big data and Internet of Things.

The issue of digital skills also hit the headlines last week when a panel of education and technology experts said parents must do more to encourage children to gain the IT and digital skills they'll need to pursue a career in technology.
