Backbytes: Apple and Facebook with frozen egg on faces

Silicon Valley companies pay for female staff to freeze their ova

The things our ever-loving employers do for us: Pensions! Healthcare! Paid holidays! Weekends off (for some)!

But Apple and Facebook take their healthcare benefits further than most. Indeed, they are a positive beacon that other good employers will no doubt be keen to copy.

In a bid to help their female staff work longer and harder, so that they can smash the glass ceiling, they're even going as far as paying so they can have ova removed and frozen, so that they can have children at a more sensible time in life - like when they've safely retired and can therefore engage their infants in dribbling competitions, for example.

Apparently, it costs about £12,500 a pop to stick an egg in the freezer, plus a cheeky £300 annual bill to keep the freezer on.

What fabulous, worker-friendly places Apple and Facebook must be.

Presumably, if they leave their fantastic companies to work for a rival, their eggs will be taken out of the Zanussi and left to defrost.
