Interoute buys UK communications services provider Vtesse

Interoute to add a twelfth European data centre to its collection and more than 7,000km of UK fibre to its network

Cloud services provider Interoute has acquired UK communications services company Vtesse Group, adding its twelfth data centre in Europe and more than 7,000 kilometres of fibre to its 60,000km pan-European global cloud services network.

According to Interoute, the Vtesse network is one of the largest national networks in the UK, connecting 55 data centres in 48 towns and cities. Vtesse works with system integrators, such as IBM, ARUP, Redstone and Logicalis, to provide metropolitan area networking and wide-area network services to its customers.

These include Lloyds TSB, the AA, Defra, Poundland and Friends Provident. They will all now gain access to Interoute's portfolio of services, too.

Interoute believes that the Vtesse Tier 3 data centre, situated 25 minutes from central London, is an ideal site for co-location, disaster recovery and back-up for the company's City of London data centres.

The data centre has 2,700 square metres of space and is capable of accommodating 877 racks at five kilowatts each via a five megawatt power supply.

"When you look at the options for European businesses wanting to take advantage of flexible, scalable cloud infrastructure, they are often limited to the public cloud providers who think Europe can be served by one European data centre location connected by the public internet," Interoute CEO Gareth William claimed.

"With this acquisition, Interoute is adding its twelfth data centre in Europe and over 7,000km of UK network to its 60,000km pan-European global cloud services platform."
