Computex: Dell unveils raft of tablets, laptops and desktop devices

Firm in rare appearance at Computex in push for Asian market success

TAIPEI: Dell has today unveiled a slew of tablets, laptops and all-in-one desktop devices at the Asian Computex 2014 tradeshow in Taiwan as the firm seeks to rival the likes of Acer and Lenovo in the region.

Dell doesn't usually make a big splash at the Taipei tradeshow, but in an attempt to boost its presence in the Asian market the company didn't hold back in announcing two Android tablets, the Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8, two 2-in-1 laptop-tablet devices, the Inspiron 3000 and Inspiron 7000 Series, and a 20in all-in-one (AIO) desktop, the Inspiron 20 3000 Series.

Dell thinks that its 7in and 8in Venue tablets are unique, in that they bring good screen quality to the market for under $200, delivering brighter viewing angles and "a better viewing experience, even outdoors".

The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablets are powered by Intel Atom Z3460 and Z3480 processors, respectively, and run the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat mobile operating system. They are aimed at consumers, joining the already launched Venue 8 Pro and Venue 11 Pro tablets. The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 will have price points of $169 and $199 respectively when they launch in the US, which is expected later this year.

The announcement of the Venue tablets was joined by the lauch of the Dell Inspiron 20 3000 Series all-in-one desktop, essentially a 19.5in tablet with a stand, a keyboard and a mouse, which boasts a full HD display with optional touch and weighs just over 3kg.

The Dell Inspiron 20 3000 series AIO will start at just $349 when it launches in the US. There's no word on a release date yet, but it is expected to hit the shelves this autumn.

The last devices Dell announced at Computex on Monday are two additions to its Inspiron line, the Inspiron 11 3000 Series, an 11in laptop with a 360-degree hinge design similar to that of the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga, as well as a slightly larger Inspiron 7000 Series, which has a 13.3in display.

The hinged design means that users can flip the device between laptop, easel, tent, and tablet configurations. Though detailed specifications for the Inspiron two-in-one devices are so far thin on the ground, we know that the 11in version has 500GB storage capacity and will have up to eight hours of battery life. It will start at $449 and increase in price depending on configuration.

The Inspiron 13 7000 Series is essentially the Inspiron 11 3000's big brother and has the same design but with a larger 13.3in display with full HD resolution and a built-in stylus. This will have six hours of battery life, an Intel Core i7 CPU and will be priced starting at $499 going up to $999 depending on the internal specification. Both of these 2-in-1 devices will be available in September, Dell said.
