Google Glass on general sale next week...for one day only
Google Glass will go on sale in US for 24 hours next Tuesday
Google is set to release its Google Glass wearable technology to the public, but for one day only.
Currently, Google Glass is limited to those selected for the explorer programme, but the company has revealed that it'll release stock to the general public for a single 24-hour period next week at a price of $1,500 plus tax.
"Every day we get requests from those of you who haven't found a way into the program yet, and we want your feedback too. So in typical Explorer Program fashion, we're trying something new," read the post on the Google Glass blog.
"Next Tuesday, April 15th at 6am PDT, we're opening up some spots in the Glass Explorer Program. Any adult in the US can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass for $1,500 + tax," it said, adding that the peripheral "now comes with your favourite shade or frame, thanks to feedback from our current Explorers".
Google also apologised to those not in the US who won't be able to purchase Google Glass because the firm said it's "just not ready yet to bring Glass to other countries".
The technology might not be available to the wider public in non-US territories, but some businesses are already assessing the potential enterprise case for Google Glass. Indeed, Virgin Atlantic has recently completed a trial of Google Glass - and other wearable technology - in an effort to determine whether such tools can improve customer service for passengers.
While there are plenty out there who are enthusiastic about the potential of Google Glass, there's also a significant percentage of people who aren't as keen on the technology, with privacy concerns surrounding the potential for being filmed without permission among the reasons some feel the technology should be banned.
