Claire House Children's Hospice chooses Tableau Software to improve data analysis

Charitable foundation using BI to get better insight into donors

Claire House Children's Hospice is looking to improve its analysis of donor data through the use of business intelligence provider Tableau Software.

The Hospice provides free respite and care to children and young people with life-limiting medical conditions, providing help to 160 families across North West England and North Wales. Claire House does not receive much government funding and relies on charitable donations to cover the £2.7m cost of yearly care.

But despite being based in the North West, Claire House receives donations from across the UK, and with Tableau Software, the organisation hopes to better understand its donor data in order to help improve its work in the community.

"We've just started to analyse our data in Tableau, but we've already come across some interesting findings about our donors," said Janet Abraham, donor development manager at Claire House.

"Our transactional data shows us that people from all walks of life are supporting us and they're contributing in different ways. Some may be monthly or one-time contributors, while businesses might support us as their charity of the year.

"Mapping it out helps us to improve our engagement and ultimately our impact in our communities."

Ultimately, Claire House will be looking to analyse data in order to examine how it can provide more resources and services for families, something that James Eiloart, vice president for EMEA for Tableau Software, said the BI solutions provider was delighted to be a part of.

"Claire House provides its hospice care at no charge to the families it helps, so understanding the donor patterns is extremely important," he said.

"This charity is a wonderful example of how insights from data can have a real, meaningful human impact. We're thrilled to support their mission."

Other customers of Tableau include game developer Jagex, which has deployed the business intelligent software to help run RuneScape, its online role-playing game with over 200 million registered users.
