We check out Acer's latest affordable Android tablet

LAS VEGAS: The Acer Iconia A1-830 was unveiled just before the 2014 CES conference. The tablet is designed to target the same affordable market as Google's own Nexus 7 tablet, costing a meagre €169 (£140). Despite its modest price Acer has managed to load the A1-830 with some impressive tech, arming it with an in-plane switching (IPS) screen and dual-core Intel Atom chipset.

However, even with these plus points the tablet does have some key shortcomings, chief of which is its use of the out-of-date Android 4.2.2 operating system. This puts the A1-830 two generations shy of Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat version. With no word on when the A1-830 will be upgraded the out-of-date software could prove a key sticking point for some buyers.

The Acer Iconia A1-830 tablet is due for release in the next few months, check back with V3 soon for a full review.
