Nokia joins tablet fray with Lumia 2520 Windows 8.1 RT machine

Finnish firm touts LTE and advanced battery life as key selling points

Nokia has unveiled its first ever tablet, the 10.1in Lumia 2520, powered by Windows RT 8.1. The firm claimed its lightweight design and extended battery life make it the ideal productivity tool for professionals on the move as it seeks to cash in on the bring your own device trend.

The Lumia 2520 was unveiled alongside Nokia's latest Lumia 1520 and 1320 phablets at the company's Nokia World event in Dubai. The tablet is the first ever Windows RT device from Nokia and features a number of the same innovations seen on the company's previous Windows Phone 8 smartphones. These include hardware like the 6.7MP rear camera's custom Zeiss optics, as well as integrated HERE Maps and Nokia music software.

Nokia touted the Lumia 2520's battery life as a key selling point, confirming the 8000 mAh battery will have a fast-charging capability that will let it charge far faster than regular tablets. The device is listed as being able to reach 80 percent battery capacity from empty in one hour.

The Lumia 2520 features a 10.1in Full HD Clearblack display and runs on a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It comes with 32GB of internal storage. The tablet also boasts LTE support and will offer business users data speeds of up to 150Mbps, depending on the network carrier.

Nokia will also release an optional Power Keyboard for business buyers looking to use the 2520 as a laptop. When connected, the Power Keyboard will add up to five extra hours of battery life and two built-in USB ports to the 2520.

The 2520 will also feature Nokia Storyteller and Nokia Video Director applications. The Storyteller app lets users curate and embed images and videos on a map to tell a story. The Nokia Video Director app will let users edit videos shot on Lumia devices.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is set to go on sale in Q4 2013 with an estimated price of $499. The Nokia Power Keyboard will be available for $149. Check back with V3 later for a full review of the Nokia Lumia 2520.
