Oracle OpenWorld 2013: Dell and Oracle to 'deepen relationship', announces Michael Dell

Software and hardware collaborations come in three new reveals

Michael Dell today said that his recently re-acquired company is to "deepen" its relationship with Oracle's through a series of technology announcements.

The Dell CEO and chairman revealed that Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c is to merge with Dell OpenManage, and said that by doing this, "customers can use the same interface for their entire infrastructure".

In a second announcement, he said Dell's Active Infrastructure will be offered for Oracle Linux and Oracle VM, meaning a complete, fully optimised Oracle solution can be installed directly and cleanly to a data centre, with full technical support.

Finally, he revealed an update to Dell's Toad product for Oracle and SharePlex, with new features for Oracle Database 12c.

"We're seeing the rise of a software-defined everything, which is making the server the centre of proceedings," Dell said.

Referring to his recent buyout of the company he founded, Dell said it could take up to a decade to measure the success of the purchase.

"Now this is going to take a long-term vision. Success won't be just measured by the short-term results we deliver, but the long-term results, five or 10 years into the future," said Dell.
