Nokia unveils Lumia 928 Windows-powered PureView phone

Top-end Windows Phone continues firm's enterprise push

Nokia has unveiled its new Lumia 928 smartphone, marking its latest attempt to take control of the enterprise market with Windows Phone 8 and camera app innovations.

The Finnish firm unveiled the Lumia 928 on Friday, claiming that its 8.7MP camera, complete with PureView stabilisation technology, custom Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash component, is the best ever seen on a smartphone.

Nokia's vice president Matt Rothschild said: "Whether you're attending a party, a concert or a sporting event with friends, the Nokia Lumia 928 excels at capturing high-quality video, audio and blur-free photos of life's most shareworthy moments."

Nokia's custom Here location services are also confirmed to be included on the Lumia 928. These include Here Maps, Here Drive+, Here Transit and Here City Lens. City Lens remains the most interesting feature, offering users an augmented reality display that gives dynamic information about their surroundings.

In terms of basic specifications, the Lumia 928 is similar to its predecessor the Lumia 920, featuring a 4.5in WXGA HD OLED, 1280x768 resolution, 334 ppi ClearBlack display and being powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor that will be backed up by 1GB of RAM. ClearBlack is another custom innovation by Nokia, designed to improve the screen's performance. It works by making blacks deeper and richer, thus making other colours pop out more.

The Lumia 928 is confirmed to boast 32GB of storage and will be powered by a 2,000mAh battery. It will also feature the same wireless charging technology as the Lumia 920, though users will have to pay extra to get a FatBoy charger to take advantage of it. The Phone will be available in both black and white on Verizon from 16 May in the US. There is no word as to when the 928 will arrive in the UK or how much it will cost, and at the time of publishing Nokia had not responded to V3's request for comment.

The 928 unveiling comes just after Samsung released its new flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 Android smartphone. Check back with V3 later this year for a review of the Lumia 928.
