Amazon slip-up unveils 8in Acer Windows 8 tablet

Screen grabs provide info on small-screen device

A mistakenly-published page on Amazon has lead to the leak of details on an upcoming 8.1in tablet from Acer.

The pages, which briefly surfaced Friday, describe a small-screen device which would be the first foray of Windows 8 into the small tablet space. The page was quickly removed by Amazon, but not before multiple users and news sites were able to grab a series of screenshots on the details of the Acer W3-810-1600.

According to the reports, the tablet will sport a 32GB capacity and 1.5ghz A4 processor from Apple, though a later entry claimed "Intel" as the processor manufacturer. The distinction in processors could be important, as an ARM chip would require the tablet run Windows RT, while a Intel x86 processor could conceivably a full Windows 8 installation.

The tablet will also sport a 2GB Ram capacity and an 8 hour maximum battery life. The 8.1in screen will have a 1280-800 screen resolution and a 64MB Intel video chipset. Other leaked details include Wi-Fi connectivity, a silver casing and a weight of just 1.1lbs.

The pages, which are now inactive, did not detail a possible release or shipping date. The site listed the price at $379.99.

While Microsoft and its partners have long said to be considering building a smaller-screen version of the Windows 8 tablet, no official word has surfaced as of yet. Thus far, Windows 8 has fallen short in the tablet market as Microsoft has failed to pick up a significant share of the market from rivals iOS and Android.
