Asus unveils 3G-enabled 32GB Nexus 7 for £199

Company remains tight lipped on carrier details, though

Asus has unveiled a new 3G-enabled version of its popular Nexus 7 Android tablet boasting 32GB of data storage, mere hours before Microsoft Windows Phone 8's release.

The new version of the Nexus 7 is close to identical of the older 8GB and 16GB versions and will cost a modest £199.

The tablet will go on sale from 4.30pm via a range of retailers including PC World, Currys, Comet, Carphone Warehouse, Ebuyer, HMV, Tesco, John Lewis, Littlewoods, Argos, Asda, Game and Sainsburys.

Asus is yet to reveal which network carriers will offer contracts for the new 32GB Nexus and at the time of publishing had not responded to V3's request for clarification.

As well as its storage and connectivity improvements the new Nexus will come preloaded with Google's latest Android 4.2 operating system.

The updated Android version promises to boast a slew of new features including an improved keyboard, new actionable notifications, a rereshed Google Now and access to the music section of the Play store.

The Nexus 7s were released earlier in the year and are the first official Google tablets.

The announcement was meant to be made at an event in New York but due to the approach of Hurricane Sandy to the city Google cancelled the event. It comes on the same day Microsoft officially unveils Windows Phone 8.
