Acer unveils Iconia W700P and W510P Windows 8 tablets

Devices designed for business use, claims gadget maker

Acer has unveiled its Iconia W700 and W510P Windows 8 Pro tablets, claiming the two devices are custom designed for business use.

The Iconia W700P (pictured above) professional tablet features a 11.6in full HD display and runs using a third-generation Intel Core processor.

The W700P also comes paired with a stylus designed for writing and digital imaging and an Acer Crystal Eye webcam for videoconferencing.

The tablet also features a custom cradle that lets users lock it in portrait or landscape views when being used with a Bluetooth keyboard.

The cradle adds a number of connectivity options to the tablet, featuring three USB 3.0 ports and a DC-in power plug.

The second Acer Iconia W510P (pictured above) features a docking keyboard similar to the ones seen on Asus Transformer series of tablets and is slightly smaller than the W700P, featuring a 10in screen.

Acer has provided few other details on the W700P and W510P's technical specifications and pricing.

At the time of publishing Acer had not responded to V3's request for details, though it is likely the two devices will have similar specifications to the Windows 8 standard edition W700 tablet Acer unveiled at Computex.

Acer has loaded the W700P and W510P and with a number of custom features designed for businesses. These include Acer's Backup Manager, Trusted Platform Module and Anytime and Anywhere connectivity features.

Backup Manager aims to protect valuable data stored on the W700P by automatically storing any information stored on the tablet is backed up online or to the company server.

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) aims to ensure that the data is secure at all times making sure the stored files conform to "corporate-level security requirements".

The anytime and anywhere connectivity means that the two tablets come with Acer InviLink Nplify Wi-Fi, as well as Bluetooth 4.0+. Acer claimed this makes the device faster than regular tablets when connecting to the internet over a wireless network.

The W700P and W510P add to the legion of new tablets and all-in-ones set to run using Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 8 operating system, with rivals Samsung and Asus having unveiled similar products earlier in the year.
