HTC One phones to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean sweetener in October

Update will include firm's own HTC Sense 4+ system

The latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, will be coming to the HTC One X and One S smartphones later this month, HTC has confirmed.

HTC announced the news alongside the launch of its HTC One X+ smartphone. "Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 4+ update is scheduled to begin rolling out for the HTC One S and HTC One X from October," it said.

HTC has yet to announce whether the Android 4.1 update will also be coming to the One V handset.

There is currently no set schedule yet for the updates, but SIM-free handsets will no doubt get the update first. Those will network-locked models will have to wait for the operating system to undergo carrier testing.

HTC's updated Sense 4+ user interface will provide the phones with some subtle changes too, such as a tweaked camera application and an update to HTC's video on-demand service HTC Watch.

Once released Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will bring a number of new features to the HTC handsets. These include a redesigned interface, an updated web browser, Google Now, Project Butter and improved power management.

This follows the news that Samsung has started rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to its flagship Galaxy S3 handset, although it is yet to appear here in the UK.
