Acer reveals Iconia Tab A110 running Android Jelly Bean
Latest 7in device to hit the market this autumn costing £180
Acer has revealed details on its next tablet device, the Iconia A110, which is set to retail for £180 when it hits the UK market during the autumn.
The device is yet another 7in model to compete with the likes of the Google Nexus tablet and the recently unveiled Kindle Fire HD from Amazon, as manufacturers aim to appeal to those seeking a tablet smaller than the 10in iPad from Apple.
The pricing will also see it compete head-to-head with these devices as manufacturers aim to appeal to those wanting a tablet device but that are unwilling to pay upwards of £300 as Apple charges.
Despite the lower price it features some powerful components, as it's powered by a Tegra 3 quad-core processor and runs on Google's latest Android platform, Jelly Bean 4.1.
The use of Jelly Bean as the device's operating system means that it also allows users to unlock it using facial recognition technology, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3.
The device weighs 390g and has a 2MP front-facing camera, while it also features an HDMI port and a MicroSD slot that can handle up to 32GB of external storage.
Acer, alongside rivals like Google and Amazon, will be hoping the launches give them a chance to gain key market share ahead of rumours that Apple will launch an iPad mini device around the 7in market.
Such a move could sway customers back towards Apple, although the firm's unwillingness to offer cheaper versions of its products could mean prices remain high even if it does release a smaller version of the iPad.
