Qualcomm slams Intel's single-core mobile chips [Video]

Intel components two to three generations behind Snapdragon equivalents, says rival chip maker

BERLIN: Intel's next wave of mobile chips are at least two to three generations behind their Snapdragon S4 equivalents, according to Qualcomm director Mark Shedd.

Qualcomm attacked Intel at its 2012 IQ event in Berlin, claiming its new Snapdragon S4 range of processors easily outdo the new wave of Intel chips set to appear in Motorola's next range of smartphones.

Shedd claimed this is because the Snapdragon components beat Intel's on certain key areas, like power consumption and software optimisation.

Qualcomm unveiled its new top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime, Pro, Plus and Play chips at Computex in June. The components are already confirmed for a number of handsets.

Nokia confirmed its new top-end Lumia 920 smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Plus earlier in September.

Qualcomm's attack comes just after Motorola confirmed its intention to release an Intel-powered smartphone later this year. The device is set to be unveiled in the UK at a London press event later in September.

To date, Intel chips have only been featured on a select number of smartphones, like the Orange San Diego.
