Nokia apologises for more faked Lumia 920 promotional material

Further embarrassment for Finnish firm

Nokia has been forced to admit that more promotional material intended to show off the photographic capabilities of its new Lumia 920 smartphone were faked.

The firm landed in hot water last week after it emerged a video purporting to show features of the Lumia 920's video technology was actually filmed using professional recording equipment.

Since the revelation, it has emerged that still photos were also faked, after an image taken by a resident of Helsinki showed a professional camera crew filming the Lumia promotional scene.

Nokia has now apologised for this too. A Nokia representative told V3 that it should have made it clear the images were not taken by the Lumia 920, but as part of the original video showing the simulated image stabilisation.

"Some further misunderstanding has arisen about still photographs taken at night in the street in Helsinki. We want to be very clear that these still images were taken from the same video, which uses the same actress in three separate scenarios - riding a bike, on a carousel and standing in the street at night in Helsinki," Nokia said.

"The entire video is a representation of the benefits of optical image stabilisation only and our apology was for using any part of the video without a clear disclaimer."

The revelations are further embarrassment for Nokia, which has seen the launch of the Lumia 920 and 820, both running on Windows Phone 8, tainted by these indiscretions.

The devices are seen as a make-or-break moment in the company's history as it battles for market share in the face of huge competition from Apple and Android devices. The new Lumia models are expected to be released in November.
