Nvidia unveils Quadro GPUs for mobile workstations

Kepler-based graphics modules promise greater performance for mobile applications

Hard on the heels of its updated workstation graphics for desktops, Nvidia has officially unveiled a new line of Quadro graphics processing unit (GPU) products aimed at mobile workstations, based on the same Kepler platform.

Nvidia's new Quadro Mobile line-up consists of the K5000M, K4000M, K3000M, K2000M, K1000M, and K500M, all based on the latest Kepler graphics architecture and boasting at least double the number of Nvidia Cuda cores as the previous generation of mobile GPUs while keeping within the same power budget.

Like their predecessors, the latest Quadro Mobile GPUs are aimed at users such as engineers, designers and video and graphics professionals who need to run demanding applications while on the move.

Capabilities include new anti-aliasing enhancements, support for bindless textures to increase the number of unique textures available for rendering, and DisplayPort 1.2 output capable of supporting resolutions up to 3840x2160 pixels.

The low-end Quadro K500M has just 192 Cuda cores and 1GB of DDR3 memory, but this increases to 1,344 Cuda cores on the top-end K5000M which has 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

The new products will be available as optional discrete graphics packages inside mobile workstations such as Dell's Precision M6700, HP's EliteBook range, Lenovo's ThinkPad W530 and the Fujitsu Celsius H920 and H720, Nvidia said.

The new Quadro Mobile graphics are certified by leading software vendors including Adobe, Autodesk, and Dassault Systèmes, according to Nvidia.
