Tablet fans were thrilled to learn that the 16GB Google Nexus 7 was back on sale in the UK last week, after being unavailable to order since 21 July. The Nexus 7 aims to give the Apple iPad a run for its money, by offering buyers a low-cost covetable tablet option.

With all the recent focus around Windows 8 and Windows Phone, Microsoft made somewhat of an unexpected announcement with the launch of Outlook.com, a replacement to its existing Hotmail email service. The web email overhaul adds a new user interface and increased social media integration, and the Redmond firm will be hoping to prise ex-Hotmail users back from rival Gmail.

Elsewhere, security was top of mind for V3 readers, as popular online storage service Dropbox suffered a password breach, while Tesco was accused of lax web security controls and AT&T fell victim to a phishing scam.
