Nvidia Developer Zone stung by password pilfering hackers

Cyber criminals look to steal developers' personal information

Nvidia has suspended its developer forum following a suspected data breach that may have compromised user passwords.

The service was taken offline on Thursday, with Nvidia posting a statement saying it is investigating the matter.

"Nvidia suspended operations today of the Nvidia Developer Zone (developer.nvidia.com). We did this in response to attacks on the site by unauthorised third parties who may have gained access to hashed passwords," it said.

"We are investigating this matter and working around the clock to ensure that secure operations can be restored."

The company indicated that the attack had targeted user password information. Nvidia has warned users about potential phishing scams using the information, urging forum members to remain wary of suspicious emails.

"As a precautionary measure, we strongly recommend that you change any identical passwords that you may be using elsewhere," warned Nvidia.

"Nvidia does not request sensitive information by email. Do not provide personal, financial or sensitive information (including new passwords) in response to any email purporting to be sent by an Nvidia employee or representative."

At the time of writing,Nvidia had not responded to V3's request for comment on the number of accounts affected or whether any other information may have been compromised during the breach.

Nvidia is one of many companies to have been targeted by hackers this week, with Yahoo, Formspring and AndroidForums.com also reporting data breaches.
