Nuffield Health moves to the cloud with HP virtualised platform

Cloud provides greater flexibility, says Nuffield CIO

Nuffield Health is to migrate to a virtualised platform provided by computer giant HP.

The charity has more than 300 facilities across the UK including private hospitals, gyms and medical centres.

Claire Myerson, chief information officer at Nuffield Health, suggested that the organisation selected HP to help it move to the cloud because of the breadth of its platform and infrastructure.

"We selected HP to help us on the cloud journey from a largely physical environment to a more virtualised platform with a geographically resilient infrastructure. HP CloudSystem is a reliable and open platform that will enable 99.999 per cent service availability across all our facilities," she said.

HP Technology Services and HP partner Richardson Eyres will deploy a virtualised HP converged infrastructure for Nuffield Health. The infrastructure consists of five HP CloudSystem Matrix solutions and a HP 3PAR V400 storage system, which will enable Nuffield Health to consolidate its existing resources.

The organisation will replace rack-mounted servers with HP server blades and will use HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules in a bid to adapt its bandwidth for applications on a case-by-case basis.

Myerson said that the move to the cloud was necessary to help the organisation better manage its growth.

"Our IT environment is constantly evolving as the organisation grows, and we need a flexible, scalable platform to help us achieve our goals."

She added: "The benefit for Nuffield Health is the centralisation of services and increased agility that this platform provides, enabling us to respond rapidly to the challenges and demands of our customers both internal and external."
