Nokia reveals Lumia 610 June release date and contract pricing

Budget Windows Phone confirmed for June release

Nokia has revealed the release date of its latest budget Windows Phone, the Lumia 610, confirming the Tango-powered handset will hit UK stores in the first week of June.

The company revealed the news at the device's London launch party on Thursday. Nokia representatives clarified the device will be available in the first week of June on a £15 per month contract.

Nokia gave no further details regarding the contracts length, nor whether there will be alternative deals, though a representative at the event confirmed to V3 it will sell SIM-free for £150.

The phone will be available through a number of carriers and stores including Carphone Warehouse, O2, Vodafone and Virgin.

The 610 is one of the first handsets to run on Windows Phone's latest Tango version. The operating system works to streamline the demands placed on the handset, letting the 610 run off 256MB of RAM.

A Nokia spokesperson clarified to V3 that the phone is proof that performance is not based on processor speeds.

"It's not about MHz or GHz - the Smoked by Windows Phone tests proved that," said the spokesperson.

Check back with V3 later in the month for a full review of the Nokia 610 to see how it compares to the company's latest top-end device, the Lumia 900.
