Toshiba unveils AT300 Tegra 3 quad-core tablet with Android Ice Cream Sandwich

New AT300 tablet offers performance without compromising battery life

Toshiba has added a new model to its growing Android tablet line-up, boosting performance by using Nvidia's Tegra 3 quad-core processor without compromising on battery life, according to the firm.

The AT300 joins the existing AT200 and AT100 tablet series, but features the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform and Nvidia's powerful Tegra 3 ARM-based chip as it aims to compete with the runaway success of the iPad.

Toshiba said the AT300 will be available from Q2 2012, which effectively means we should see it before the end of June.

The AT300 is a 10.1in device with a Corning Gorilla Glass display supporting a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and includes 1GB of DDR3 memory, 16GB or 32GB of Flash storage, microSD card slot, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus HDMI video output.

With its Tegra 3 processor, the AT300 is capable of incredible graphics performance, according to Toshiba. However, this quad-core chip also has a low-power fifth core specifically designed to handle everyday tasks, which can extend battery life to up to a claimed 10 hours.

The device is 8.95mm thick and weighs in at 590g, with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with flash and a rear 2-megapixel camera. It also has a pair of 1W stereo speakers with SRS audio enhancement.

Pricing for the AT300 is expected to be £329 for the 16GB version and £379 for the 32GB version.
