Government appoints Liam Maxwell as deputy CIO

Maxwell to continue responsibilities as director of ICT Futures

Liam Maxwell, director of the Cabinet Office's ICT Futures programme, has been appointed deputy government CIO.

Maxwell will fill the vacancy left by Bill McCluggage's move to storage hardware firm EMC.

His new boss, government CIO Andy Nelson, started in his role this week, but remains CIO of the Ministry of Justice. Maxwell himself remains director of ICT Futures, meaning that the government has created two part-time roles to lead its ICT strategy.

Nelson said: "I am delighted that Liam Maxwell will be taking on the role of deputy government chief information officer. This is an important step in delivering ICT services that are fit for a modern Civil Service.

"Liam has a strong track record of delivering success in government ICT and he also brings significant experience of turning the theory into practice."

Maxwell has signed a three-year, fixed-term contract. No start date has been announced.
