HTC One X goes on sale in UK

HTC's flagship quad-core smartphone arrives alongside One S sibling

HTC's One X smartphone has arrived in the UK, offering consumers cutting edge quad core powered Android Ice Cream Sandwich tech.

HTC's One X and S devices are now on sale in the UK, through Vodafone, Three, Orange and T-Mobile.

Retailing SIM-free for £500, HTC's flagship, quad-core One X is available free on a number of £36 per month, two-year contracts. The One X's dual-core sibling, the One S, is also available, retailing for £420 SIM-free.

Unveiled at Mobile World Congress, the handset is the first of a slew of quad-core devices set to hit the UK market, with others including Huawei's Ascend D Quad and LG's Optimus 4X HD.

As well as its quad-core chip, Google's latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and HTC's latest Sense 4.0 software, the device seeks to target the top-end market, an area currently dominated by Apple and Samsung.

According to statistics from the International Data Corporation (IDC) at the close of 2011, HTC only held around 10 per cent of the smartphone market. Samsung and Apple both held shares exceeding 30 per cent.
