EDF Energy selects Atos for £100m datacentre services deal
10-year contract to improve resilience and flexibility of IT infrastructure
EDF Energy has selected IT services provider Atos to provide its datacentre services in a contract worth more than £100m.
Under the 10-year contract, Atos will provide EDF Energy with additional datacentre capacity to meet increased demand. Atos will also allow its services to be scaled up or down, according to EDF's requirements.
Existing EDF datacentre facilities will be rationalised by Atos. The services provider will also look to introduce services from its own global network of datacentres in addition to implementing new technology solutions to improve the EDF datacentres' service resilience.
"Throughout the rigorous 12-month procurement process, Atos clearly demonstrated that it had the expertise, capability and capacity to meet our business needs in the UK. The new solution will enable us to run our business more cost-effectively while improving the resilience and flexibility of our IT infrastructure," said Nigel Pettifer, EDF Energy head of datacentres.
"This contract extends our relationship with EDF Group and represents the start of a long-term partnership between Atos and EDF Energy in the UK," said Ursula Morgenstern, CEO for UK and Ireland at Atos.
More than 100 of EDF Energy's employees will be transferring to Atos as part of the deal, but will continue to be based at EDF Energy locations.
