Asus reveals Android 5.0 Jelly Bean name

Reports also hint subsequent version to be dubbed Key Lime Pie

Asus is confident that it will be among the first manufacturers to release the Android 5.0 update, which the firm has said will be named Jelly Bean.

The Taiwanese firm believes its close working relationship with Google will help it get the update on to its devices before many of its competitors.

"Asus is very close to Google, so once they have Android 5.0, I think there will be a high possibility that we will be the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update," Benson Lin, corporate vice president of Asus, told TechRadar.

Asus does have history when it comes to pushing out updates before the competition.

The manufacturer was the first to release an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet so it is conceivable that it will be the first to push out the Jelly Bean update to users or even release a device with the OS preloaded.

Information has also emerged regarding the version of Android that will follow Jelly Bean. Google is tipped to name the subsequent edition of the operating system Key Lime Pie, according to The Verge.

This will continue with Google's tradition of going through the alphabet and picking dessert-related names.

There are no details about the features that will be included in either update, but there are suggestions that there could be a Siri-like voice assistant on the way.

Android Jelly Bean could be expected later on this year, with KLP most likely to follow in 2013.
