Dell kills off Streak 7 tablet

Slow sales force Dell's hand as another tablet bites the dust

Dell has stopped selling the Streak 7 tablet through its web site in the US, and is referring customers to the company's other mobile products, including its smartphone and netbook lines.

The move brings an end to the 7in tablet, which arrived in the UK in April 2011 and failed to live up to sales expectations.

Dell's decision comes as other vendors are experiencing similar problems. RIM recently wrote off $485m in a bid to push sluggish sales of the PlayBook tablet, and HP has been scrambling to offload inventory of its ill-fated TouchPad WebOS tablet.

Traditional power players such as Apple, Samsung and HTC, meanwhile, remain mired in legal battles over intellectual property.

Online retailers have also entered the fray, most recently with the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet.
