DWP spend with HP and BT down £45m since last year

But the vendors are still the top tech suppliers to the Department

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has released a list of its top 100 suppliers for the period 2010 to 2011, detailing how much it spent on different tech vendors.

The figures have been made available following a freedom of information request issued by the Guardian.

The list highlights the fact that the DWP spent less on HP and BT in 2010-11, but more on Atos Origin, when compared with the previous year.

The combined spend on BT and HP was down by over £45m.

However, despite the drop in spend, HP managed to hold on to the number two spot of the DWP's top 100 suppliers with a total spend of over £629m, and BT jumped from fourth place to third with a spend of over £214m.

Atos Origin was the biggest tech climber in the last 12 months, where it jumped from seventh place to fifth and saw its spend increase from over £150m to more than £175m.

Other big tech suppliers to DWP include Serco, which was 10th with a spend of over £86m, Xerox, at 15th with a spend of over £56m, and Computacenter 25th with a spend of over £25m.

Technology companies that feature lower down the list include Cable & Wireless (66th), Ricoh (67th), O2 (89th) and Siemens (97th), all of which had less than £6m spent on them between 2010 and 2011.
