The UK IT Industry Awards had a tweeting good time

The live Twitter wall was a hit with attendees

Last night's UK IT Industry Awards was a huge success and once again the live Twitter wall was the focus of much attention from guests who took to their smartphones in droves to get a piece of the action.

The Awards are always an impressive affair, which David C Evans, membership director at the BCS Chartered Institute for IT, pointed out in one of his tweets: "Congrats to all the winners at the Oscars of the IT Industry from BCS and Computing."

There were also plenty of tweets coming through from winners on the night: "Congratulations to our very own Rob Fraser for winning CIO of the year at the UK IT Awards 2011," tweeted the Sainsbury's team.

"Still walking on Cloud 9 after winning the Young IT professional of the year at the UK IT Awards 2011… super evening," tweeted Nicola Cooper, senior consultant at IBM.

"WE WON!! We are officially the top small UK IT supplier of the year! So proud of my team right now," tweeted Kate Craig-Wood, CEO of Memset.

Guests also delved deep into their wallets last night to raise £8,000 for Computer Aid, a fantastic UK charity that aims to reduce poverty through practical IT solutions.

Computer Aid provides high-quality, refurbished computers and laptops for reuse in education, health, agriculture and not-for-profit organisations in developing countries.

"Many thanks to all at the UK IT Awards 2011 and to BCS and Computing for their fantastic support for ICT for development projects in Kenya this evening!" tweeted Computer Aid on the night.

There was also real support from the crowd for the winner of the Outstanding Contribution to UK IT award, which went to Mike Lynch, founder of UK company Autonomy.

John Barnes, managing director of digital and technology at Incisive Media, tweeted his support for the winner by saying: "Love Autonomy, great UK company and huge success story. Well done Mike, long overdue!"

The IT Industry celebrated its success until the early hours of the morning and the tweets are still coming through under the hashtag #UKITAwards2011.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and Computing hopes to see everyone again next year for what is bound to be another excellent UK IT Industry Awards.
