Sony hires first security chief

Four months after PSN hack, electronics giant appoints Philip Reitinger as chief information security officer

Sony has appointed a new chief information security officer, Philip Reitinger, four months after the company suffered from a series of massive data breaches.

Reitinger, who had previously worked as head of the US National Cyber Security Center and for Microsoft, has been appointed as senior vice-president and chief information security officer of Sony. He will report to general counsel Nicole Seligman.

According to Reuters, shares in Sony have fallen 55 per cent since the company first revealed it had been the victim of a hack on 27 April this year.

A Sony spokesman told Reuters that "the [PlayStation] network issue was a catalyst for the appointment".

He added: "And we are looking to bolster our network security even further."
