HTC unveils Radar and Titan smartphones with Windows Phone 7 Mango

Mid-range and high-end handsets feature Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 update

HTC has announced two new handsets based on Windows Phone 7 Mango, the updated release of Microsoft's smartphone platform.

The two phones, due in October, are the mid-range HTC Radar with a 3.8in screen and the high-end HTC Titan with a huge 4.7in screen.

Both are targeted at consumers, and offer multimedia features such as support for DLNA for media streaming to compatible TV and Hi-Fi kit.

The 137g Radar boasts a 1GHz processor and 512MB memory plus 8GB Flash storage and a 5-megapixel camera.

Meanwhile, the Titan has a 1.5GHz processor, 512MB memory, 16GB Flash, 8-megapixel camera and weighs 160g in a super-thin 9.9mm casing. It also has a 16:9 aspect ratio 480x800 screen that is better for watching movies, HTC said.

Both handsets support HSPA up to 14.4Mbit/s, plus 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth and the usual set of sensors found on HTC phones.

Notable features include a shorter 28mm focal length on the main cameras, making them better for wide shots, according to HTC, while an Auto Fix feature adjusts for poor lighting.

Windows Phone 7 Mango now provides for multi-tasking, allowing users to flick between open app windows. However, like the first generation of handsets, no memory slots are supported for storage expansion.

Prices for the new handsets have yet to be announced.
