Dell offers access to software shopping portal

PC manufacturer invests in Shopping from 1E to help users cut their IT helpdesk costs

Dell has begun offering users access to a new app store in order to help cut their IT helpdesk costs and plan their own Windows 7 migration more efficiently.

The PC manufacturer has invested in the Shopping app store from software firm 1E.

According to 1E, the Shopping solution allows end users to save time spent tracking and installing applications, it also allows control of the number of deployments across their business.

The self-service and automated request, approval and delivery process means users can download software and services from Dell's app store within minutes. It also reduces the number of software requests to the helpdesk.

"When we invested in Shopping we initially just saw it as a value-add, but the deeper we got into the technology, the more we saw the potential to enhance our offering," said Angie Stahl, systems engineer at Dell.

She explained that Dell has seen major cost savings and said that its previous process was very ‘clunky'; it used to take around 32 hours to deliver new software to an end user, now it is delivered within minutes," she said.
