Amazon Virtual Private Cloud now available in UK
The service aims to give enterprises more control of their cloud apps
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has said its Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) product will be rolled out to all regions, including US east and west coasts, Europe, Singapore and Tokyo from today.
VPC, which had previously been in beta testing, allows businesses to provision a private section of AWS where they can launch AWS resources in a virtual network they define and control.
This includes selecting the IP address range, the creation of subnets and the configuration of route tables and network gateways.
It is hoped that this will allay concerns around security and management controls within a public cloud.
VPC will also be available across multiple AWS Availability Zones within each region, which will allow customers to further spread their risk by building applications across various "zones", such as different datacentres, or sections of a datacentre, to prevent failure from a single point.
Enterprises will be able to connect to their Amazon VPC via a virtual private network or through a standard internet connection.
Scott Johnson, vice president of enterprise engineering for the InterContinental Hotel Group, believes that Amazon VPC will make it easier for the hotel group to target new markets.
"As the largest hotel company in the world with hotels in over 100 countries, our business requires us to operate with a global mindset," said Johnson.
"By making Amazon VPC available in all AWS regions and in multiple availability zones, we gain even more flexibility to deploy our applications in the cloud as we target markets around the world".
