Tesco rolls out free Wi-Fi

Supermarket giant lets shoppers compare prices and read reviews while they shop

Tesco aims to become the first supermarket in the UK to offer free Wi-Fi in-store, after announcing that it plans to trial the service in four of its supermarkets.

The supermarket giant has rolled out the service in order to enable customers to compare prices and read product reviews while shopping.

The firm is also planning to use the Wi-Fi service to deliver special offers to customers' smartphones while they shop, according to reports.

The rollout is also designed to support the potential future conversion of the Tesco Clubcard scheme to a web-based initiative, where Clubcard members receive points online.

Free UK WiFi hotspots tend to be limited to cafes and restaurants, such as Starbucks and McDonald's.
