WANdisco launches enterprise ALM app store

UberApps gives enterprises one-stop, best-of-breed ALM software tool shop

Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) firm WANdisco has today launched an enterprise app store, named uberApps, which will a one-stop-shop for firms looking to integrate best-of-breed ALM technologies into their software development projects.

WANdisco chief executive David Richards said the product will change the landscape in terms of "how enterprises buy and deploy software development tools".

According to the company, third-party applications bought through uberApps will "install seamlessly" and update automatically when updates are pushed out.

WANdisco will provide a software development kit (SDK) for firms writing third-party applications themselves, and applications in uberApps can be reviewed and rated by other uberApps users.

"IT departments can deploy the certified applications that they need, when they need them," added Richards, who also said that all applications in uberApps will be tested and certified to integrate into WANdisco's uberSVN ALM platform.

"Companies will no longer have to put up with extended product evaluations, long implementation cycles and steep learning curves. Certified training, support and consulting services can be purchased without the fear of getting burned,” said Richards.

UberSVN is WANdisco's source code management system. It is based on its enterprise Subversion package, which in turn is built on the Apache Foundation's Subversion open-source software versioning system.

WANdisco recently updated its uberSVN system with Twitter-like feeds that give software project status information to development teams.

Although WANdisco is headquartered in Silicon Valley, its software development team is based in Sheffield after it relocated there from London in 2008.
