Survey: Consumerisation of IT boosts employee productivity

YouGov survey reveals supporting consumerisation of technology can result in increases in productivity of more than 30 per cent

Many UK businesses that support "bring your own technology" schemes are seeing productivity increases in excess of 30 per cent, according to research released today.

This research was conducted by YouGov on behalf of Citrix Online and questioned 700 senior executives and managers in small businesses across the UK, France and Germany.

A third (33 per cent) of businesses claim to have recorded productivity improvements of more than 10 per cent, with 11 per cent of businesses saying they had seen productivity gains of over 30 per cent.

The biggest concern surrounding bring your own technology is, unsurprisingly, security, with 32 per cent of firms concerned about the security implications of allowing application and document downloads and remote access to the corporate network.

Employees using their devices for personal purposes during working hours was a concern for 32 per cent of respondents.

Just over half of UK firms (54 per cent) are aware of all the devices their staff are using for business purposes, well ahead of the European average of just 43 per cent.

Of those surveyed, the majority (57 per cent) admitted that they have no policy, procedures or IT systems in place to manage the use of personal devices for business purposes.
